Musicambia (“music”+“change”) helps people in prison write, play, and perform music, cultivating collaborative communities that benefit the health and well-being of everyone involved.

I currently teach in recurring programs at Sing Sing Correctional Facility and Bedford Hills Correctional Facility, and have taught songwriting workshops at Fishkill Correctional Facility, Maryland Correctional Institution for Women, Sing Sing and Bedford Hills.

This has truly been some of the most formative and meaningful work of my career, and doing it in a country with one of the highest incarceration rates in the world feels especially important.
Beyond the impact on our students, I leave every experience changed. The music becomes a vehicle for connection, healing, rehabilitation and self-expression with people who are too often hidden from view and marginalized by the rest of society. The creativity, openness and resilience I encounter in these spaces have shaped my own artistry and values deeply.
